Ethics

“Novensia” is committed to adhering to the highest standards of publication ethics, basing its activities on international guidelines, including the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The following guidelines are intended to ensure transparency and academic integrity at every stage of the publication process, from manuscript submission to final publication.

The Editorial Board collaborates with Authors in complete confidentiality, avoids conflicts of interest, and assesses submissions solely on their scientific merit, originality, and relevance to the development of the field. In evaluating submissions and making decisions on publication, the Editorial Board is guided by the principle of equal treatment, without discriminating against Authors on the basis of gender, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability, or political views.

All manuscripts must meet ethical standards, and Authors are required to provide sufficient information to enable the verification of sources and the interpretation of research results. Presenting findings in a manner that violates the principles of scientific integrity, including data fabrication or falsification, is strictly prohibited.

Submissions to the journal must be original, previously unpublished, and not simultaneously submitted to other journals. The Editorial Board reserves the right to check manuscripts using anti-plagiarism software to detect any non-compliance with this requirement. While publishing research findings in multiple forms is generally not permitted, in the field of archaeology it is acceptable to publish preliminary results that may later be expanded into more comprehensive analyses.

Authors are obliged to indicate their contribution to the creation of the manuscript accurately. All co-authors must be actively involved in writing the text or preparing parts of it, which should be clearly specified, for example by using initials next to the relevant sections. In the acknowledgements, other individuals who contributed to the research but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed. Ghostwriting and guest authorship are treated as serious breaches of academic ethics.

Each manuscript must include full details of the sources of research funding, as well as any other forms of support. Failure to disclose conflicts of interest may result in the rejection or retraction of the article. Conflicts of interest that may affect the interpretation of findings or editorial decisions should be disclosed by Authors, Reviewers, and members of the Editorial Board.

The Editorial Board actively monitors and responds to cases of copyright infringement, plagiarism, or other forms of academic misconduct. In the event that such issues are discovered after publication, the Editorial Board is committed to publishing appropriate corrections, clarifications, or apologies. If an article is retracted, information about this will be provided transparently.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permissions to publish illustrations or other materials protected by copyright, and copies of these permissions should be submitted to the Editorial Board. Any restrictions arising from the conditions of such permission should be discussed with the Editorial Board prior to publication.

The Editorial Board supports open access to research findings and encourages Authors to deposit research data in repositories in line with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles. Publishing preprints on open platforms is permitted, provided that once the article is published in “Novensia”, Authors include full bibliographical data and a DOI link.

All submissions to the journal must comply with the above ethical guidelines. Authors, Editors, and other involved parties undertake to adhere to these principles, and in the event of any breach of academic ethics, the Editorial Board will take appropriate measures in line with COPE guidelines and its own remedial procedures.
